Don’t Wait! At first I wasn’t so sure the winch was something that I needed or had to have. Based off my experience with a sharp chain and a big enough power head it takes minimal effort to slab out a log. Well I decided to pull the trigger on the winch and give it a go, first time using it, it was a game changer. 0 effort, smoother cuts, and allows me to use the same chain longer due to the fact that I’m not pushing through a dull chain using all my energy. Save that for moving slabs! Pick it up you’ll be happy you did.

If you are skeptical about the new wench, if it is worth the $100 price? The answer is absolutely yes. I milled 5 slabs off a FL Pecan, 2.5”x35”x111”. This hard wood took ruffley 9-11mins each cut, with my 395XP. I was pretty gassed after each! I purchased the wench and used it for the last two slabs. I was shocked at the difference. The mechanical advantage is incredible! You literally only have to hold the throttle, and turn the wench handle! No pushing. You can easily turn the power head out, or around and unstraight edges, by holding the power head back slightly, and allow the wench to pull the bar tip further forward. Which allows the guide plates at the power head, to turn out, and around the edge. I’m mad I waited this long to purchase it. You can get the wench for the money, or save it for your doctors co-pay, when you hurt your back! Just sayin! Well worth it! Great product! Thank you Grandberg! Cut Big!

Don’t mill anything without this. Last year I spent two weeks milling a few big trees, and my arms and shoulders were sorer than doing 1000 squats followed by 1000 lunges. Today I milled up a 34″ diameter x 10ft maple log, and I’m ready to work again tomorrow. Great product. The updates and revisions are well executed.

Well I just started using the Alaskan Winch setup and all I can say is wow I have been doing it all wrong!! This is a must have for your Alaskan mill setup, it makes slabbing a breeze with large or small bar setups, not to mention the additional safety if provides when working solo!! A+++ and best 100 bucks I’ve spent since I started sawing! Thank you Granberg for all you help and quality products!

I cannot believe how much less effort it takes to operate this winch than it does to push the saw without it. Very much worth the investment…

I had the bog standard generic winch, which was great at the time. But when it started playing up and becoming a bit of a pain I decided to give the Granberg winch a go. As soon as I got it from Granberg (and I can’t praise their customer support enough) I could tell it was gonna be good. Much smaller than my old winch, sleek, and fitted perfectly (unlike my old one) it just looked well thought out. Small details like the eye that guides the rope back onto the winch when winding. It didn’t disappoint when milling either. Really smooth and a pleasure to use. If you have an Alaskan Mill you need to be investing one of these. You won’t be disappointed

I purchased this mill after using my own “shopmade” Boat winch mill. I was sick of the crappy features that I had to cobble together to make the other system work. I really like the anchor point on the end of the log, making the whole system completely mobile. Another great feature is how the mill will simply unwind when you are restarting for another cut. Grangberg has this all figured out. with my shopmade winch, i had to crank out the line and pull the mill backwards to begin a new cut, which added time and was really annoying. This is worth the money.

Another quality Granberg product! I’m still amazed at how easy milling has become. I personally own (3) Granberg products and I’m beyond satisfied with the products and quality of craftsmanship involved.

So, buy the winch or don’t buy the winch? I bought the winch and used it today cutting 12’ x 18” x 1 1/2” thick pine boards. Result: a totally different cut to ‘pushing’ my Stihl 661 along. Were I to be buying another or my first 48” Alaska mill I would simply not buy it without the winch, you have so much more control.

We have a Alaskan sawmill and just purchased the winch and milling chain. We love it. It makes the whole process easier. Thank you.
